Abani was launched in Northern Ireland in 2009, by me, Karen McClure, when I returned home from a period of living in Bangladesh.

As we all know there has been a growing emphasis, over the past number of years, towards eco-friendly products, produced using ethically sound origins and methods.

While living in Bangladesh I noticed the high quality of craftwork available in the local markets which had been produced from natural products.

When I was undertaking some voluntary work, I had the opportunity to visit and see various women's groups and organisations which were producing these delightful handicrafts.

I decided to work with several groups of local women who promote and apply Fair Trade principles, to source, design and produce beautiful handcrafted products, based on the ethos of being eco-friendly and ethically produced.

Indeed the name Abani means Earth in Bangla (the language of Bangladesh).

As a result Abani has to offer you, a unique, exquisite and zany range of products. For children we have beautiful hand-crocheted soft toys, party decorations, multi cultural costumes and animal face masks. For the discerning, ethically aware adult we have everything from designer jute bags to silk paper and festive decorations.
